It's amazing how a pregnancy changes the way that others look at you. No longer am I greeted with, "Hey Ell, how are ya?" But rather a long list of pregnancy related greetings... I swear there's gotta be a website these people draw from.

I really can't wait for my baby to be born, but it will also be nice to go back to the normal, "Hey Ell."... For now though here are my responses I wish I had the guts to give to the most common greetings:

  • Q. "No baby yet?"
  • A. "Yes, we had the baby in the last 18 hours, I was up all night listening to my wife scream, but I still thought, "Hey, I should go to classes today."
  • Q. "Is she having Braxton Hicks contractions?" (and "other" questions that could be labeled as: personal)
  • A. There's no right way to answer these questions (or worse the other personal questions). People should just know, if you've just met someone, don't ask them about body functions!
  • Q. Shouldn't you be at the Hospital?"
  • A. "Shouldn't you stop talking now?"
  • Q. "How's Dena feeling?"
  • A. "Like she has a 9 and a half pound watermelon floating around in her body that has grown limbs and maybe, just maybe could pop out all Alien-like at a moment's notice... and how are you feeling?"
*I appreciate all my friends at ILE who are keeping tabs on the pregnancy, I love you, respect your advice and want you to know, these responses are not directed at you but rather those "casual aquiantences" that wouldn't know me from a hole in the wall if my wife wasn't walking around about to burst.

Anyway, with that out of the way, here's what else has been happening in our lives:
  • Dena's been sick, but is feeling much better now, thanks for your prayers.
  • Had Haley and Annie over for supper last night. They are the girls who will watch our place when we go the hospital to have the baby.

  • It's Spiritual Emphasis Week at the language school which means three things. 1. No homework this week! 2. LOTS of homework next week. 3. My Geek Squad that we've trained to run PowerPoint for Chapel have started their positions... THANKS GUYS! YOU'RE AMAZING!
  • I've posted some pics from Spiritual Emphasis Week below.
  • There has been a slight increase in violence around the language school. The School has hired a firm to work security that has armed guards and there have been a few muggings and even a car stolen near the school... Don't worry, we are extremely safe, just pray that God will bring tranquility to the situation.
  • Did I mention I want my baby?

Every step in life brings another change of normalcy. Where there use to be "Hey Ell, how are you?" now there is, "How is Dena?". Next will be, "Hey so-n-so's dad." Never lose sense of your own identity. Be there for your wife because it will be different for her too. The mother-to-be gets a lot of attention and when the baby comes, it is all about the baby. Let us know if you need us to do anything.
