We had a great night last night. It started to POUR rain just after I posted my last Blog. The Tico's (non offensive nickname for a Costa Rican) think it's strange to have so much rain because we are in the "dry" season right now. Danielle was sick, so Rodrigo (that's him in the pic) was the only one that came over. But it was 3 hours of almost straight Spanish and I was able to hold my own pretty good. It's helpful that Rodrigo is a student of English because it seems if I don't know a Spanish word I want to use, he knows the English word and can translate it for me, and vice versa.
I think we're going to need to start talking English one day and Spanish the next so that it's fair to him.Topics covered last night were:
-Of course, Baby. Rodrigo thinks the baby will come on the 12th... O I hope it's that soon.
-School
-Youth ministry. Rodrigo used to be involved in a youth group at his church.
-Church. R is a Catholic and admits he doesn't go as much as he should. If you think of it, pray that God will open opportunities to talk to him more about a relationship with JC.
-Good food. Dena made a lasagna that was, "Magnifico". We were all stuffed afterwards. R ate 3 pieces and asked if I would roll him home.
-And of course... language blunders. Those of you that know the story of how I met Dena know how I am the King of language blunders. Long story short, I called her mother a cow but didn't realize it.
Anyway. So today has been kinda a lazy day. We slept in, got up and I went out to the Ferria (fruit and veggie market), got another set of keys made for the people who will stay in our apartment when we are at the Hospital for the birth, then I came home. I think one of the most frustrating things I have found living here is constantly wanting to double count my change and the price of things. Let me just make one thing clear. Ticos are HONEST PEOPLE!!! However, that said, just like in Canada or the U.S., there are people that take advantage of people who don't know better. So it kinda stinks that these swindlers don't wear a t-shirt that says "Crook", because the result is that I look at everyone I buy something from through these "crook" color glasses at least for the first couple times.Anyway, well, I think that's about it for now. We really need to finish our Feb. Newsletter. It's hard to get it done because we seem to have various pockets of free time, but no long length to just sit down and pound something out. I will say though that I think we are going to be cutting back to bi-monthly newsletters in the interest of saving a few trees and having more time to dedicate to studying and of course the baby... any day now... right?... please!!!!!!
